Governor Pat McCrory signed Executive Order 93 on Tuesday to clarify North Carolina’s House Bill 2. Senator Tarte’s statement reads:

“Today Governor Pat McCrory issued an executive order regarding HB2 that demonstrates common sense in how North Carolina will equitably address and not tolerate discrimination against any person. The executive order confirms that private and public employers, non-profits, and churches have the authority to adopt non-discrimination policies even stronger than state and federal law if they so desire. This executive order provides a balanced approach to the need for privacy in public showers and bathrooms of our children, while maintaining equal and unbiased treatment for all North Carolina residents and visitors to our great state. I fully support Governor McCrory in his decisive action today. I look forward to working with the Governor to clarify and improve existing state anti-discrimination statutes, stopping the unnecessary overreach of county and municipal governmental bodies, while continuing to provide comprehensive legal remedies to acts of discrimination that will not be tolerated within North Carolina.”
