Police: Reckless Driving & Alcohol To Blame In Wednesday’s Fatal Accident

The driver of the truck that caused Wednesday’s fatal head-on collision has been charged with DWI and several other charges including felony death by motor vehicle.

Investigators say 31-year-old Christopher Goss was heading west on Wilkinson Boulevard from Moores Chapel Loop when he crossed the center line and hit 44-year-old Shannon Young’s Hyundai Elantra head-on.

Goss was reported as driving in a reckless manner when the accident occurred.

Goss, Young, and her passenger, 72-year-old Joyce Hinson, were all taken to CMC with serious injuries. Joyce Hinson was later pronounced dead.

A third vehicle being driven by 61-year-old Gary Gourley was also involved in the crash after Goss and Young hit head-on. Gourley only received minor injuries and refused any transport.

Officials say reckless driving and alcohol were both contributing factors on the part of Christoper Goss. He has been charged with DWI, felony death by motor vehicle, felony serious injury by motor vehicle, and careless and reckless driving.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials say one person has died after a three car accident on Wilkinson Boulevard.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:23 p.m Wednesday at Wilkinson Boulevard and Moores Chapel Road. Three people were taken to Carolinas Medical Center Main. One person was later pronounced dead.

There is no word yet on what caused the crash. No names have been released at this time.

Wilkinson Boulevard will be closed at Old Dowd Road heading towards the city of Belmont for an unknown amount of time.
