UPDATE:
The Burke County Medical Examiner confirms the body found near Wilson’s Creek is that of Richard Triplett, 56, who has been missing since April 18.
The M.E. says there are no signs of physical trauma or foul play. An autopsy and toxicology will be performed.
The investigation is ongoing.
BURKE CO., NC — Investigators believe the body found in an area of Wilson’s Creek Wednesday may be that of a man who has been missing since April 18th.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office says 56-year-old Richard Triplett of Connelly Springs was reported missing on April 19th by family members. The family said Triplett had been missing since 6am the day before.
On Wednesday, April 27, investigators located a 2001 Honda CRV registered to Triplett on a US Forest Service Road in the area of Wilson’s Creek. Deputies then responded to another area roughly 3 miles away from the CRV’s location and found a deceased male.
Investigators say the body has not been positively identified. The investigation is still ongoing.
