CHESTERFIELD, SC — The Band Director at Chesterfield-Ruby Middle School is facing charges after admitting to an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office says the Chesterfield County School District Office notified them about the possible relationship Wednesday.
Investigators quickly started looking into the report. Thursday morning they conducted a forensic interview with the victim and an interview with the suspect.
During that interview investigators say 24-year-old Bryce Benning admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with the student.
The victim’s family was notified and Benning was charged with Third Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor.
Benning was booked at Chesterfield County Detention Center, but bonded out. His court date has not yet been released.
