CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials say the SWAT situation in southwest Charlotte has ended.
On Monday, members of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located Mark Belton, 28, who was a passenger inside a vehicle and had several outstanding warrants.
Officers followed the vehicle until it stopped in 8800 block of Steelechase Drive where Belton exited and ran into a nearby residence.
Belton then barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to obey orders to come out. Members of the SWAT Team and Negotiators were activated and responded to the scene, set up a perimeter and made contact with him. Nearby residents were also evacuated as a precaution.
After a standoff with SWAT and speaking with Negotiators, Belton surrendered himself to officers without further incident. Belton is currently being transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Officers determined that Belton and the resident of the home he entered were known to one another.
