Police: Meat Salesman Arrested For Financially Exploiting Elderly Woman

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Police say a salesman for Capital Meats has been arrested for trying to financially exploit an elderly woman.

Investigators say Charles Turner was going door to door in Kannapolis selling meat products.  Turner reportedly encountered an 87-year-old woman at her house on Centergrove Road and attempted to sell her a large quantity of frozen meat that was valued at $400.

Police say the woman suffers from a diminished mental capacity and did not have enough money to pay for the meat.  That’s when police say Turner and another employee drove the woman in their company van to a local bank.

Detectives say Turner attempted to get the woman to make a withdrawal from her bank account in order to pay for the meat.  Police say an alert bank employee realized the woman was not in a state of mind to comprehend what she was doing or what was going on so the employee alerted police.

After an in-depth investigation, a warrant for arrest was obtained for Turner.  He has been charged with exploitation of an elder adult through a business relationship.  Turner turned himself in at the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office and was released after posting a $250 bond.

Turner has also been terminated from his job at Capital Meats.
