Pineville Firefighter Memorial Service & Procession Details

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– 20-year-old volunteer firefighter Richard Sheltra died while battling a fire in south Charlotte Saturday night.

Pineville Fire Department and the Charlotte Fire Department both responded to the fire at the 8500 block of Pineville Matthews Road.

Sheltra was found in distress in the building and was taken to CMC-Main where he was pronounced dead. He had served as a volunteer firefighter for three years.

A Memorial Service will be held at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Charlotte on Saturday, May 7th at 12:00 p.m. During the service, a small procession of local fire apparatus will participate to and from the Church.

The processional routes are as follows:

Procession One: Will travel approximately 3 miles from the Funeral Home to the Church. The procession will leave from the McEwen Funeral Service (10500 Park Rd, Charlotte) and travel to the Forest Hills Baptist Church (7224 Park Rd, Charlotte) via Park Road.

Procession Two: Will travel approximately 8 miles from the Church back to the Funeral Home by way of the Pineville VFD Station. This route will take procession two down Park Rd, to Sharon Rd W, South Blvd, Pineville Rd, N Polk St, College St, Church St, Main St, Pineville- Matthews Rd onto Park Rd arriving back at the Funeral Home.

Following the Memorial Service, attendees are invited to attend a post Memorial gathering at the Belle Johnston Community Center. The event is scheduled to begin around 1:30 p.m. in the gymnasium. Light refreshments will also be available.
