Troutman Homeowner Shot By Burglary Suspects
TROUTMAN, N.C. — Deputies say a man was shot after two men broke into a home in Troutman.
Investigators say the victim noticed a window was broken out of his home when he pulled into his driveway. The victim reportedly left his vehicle running as he continued into his house. Once inside, deputies say the victim heard a man threaten him.
The victim allegedly ran from the home but was grazed by a bullet fired by one of the suspect’s who was still inside the house, according to detectives.
The victim was able to call 911 for help. Once deputies arrived on the scene, the victim’s vehicle was missing and deputies could not locate the suspects. Video surveillance footage was collected from the home.
Deputies were able to identify the suspects from the surveillance video and arrested Derrick Howell and Brenton McCain. Both men have been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, 2nd degree burglary and larceny of motor vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was recovered and the victim is expected to be okay.
