The Principal at J.V. Washam says crews are working to reduce the carbon monoxide levels so that students can return to class. Parents can pick up their kids if they choose.
Students will remain outside until fire crews give the all clear.
CORNELIUS, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg School officials confirm J.V. Washam Elementary in Cornelius was evacuated Monday morning.
Officials say students and staff were evacuated from the school when fumes were detected in the cafeteria.
Fire crews are investigating the cause.
All students and staff were safely evacuated and will remain outside until given the all clear.
