Faulty Wiring Sparks Overnight Apartment Fire

CHARLOTTE, NC — 15 people were put out of their homes Tuesday morning after a fire tore through a south Charlotte apartment building.

Investigators say the 2 alarm fire that started around 1am Tuesday in a condo at 2133 Kirkwood Avenue in Dilworth was caused by faulty electrical wiring.

Officials say the fire was showing through the roof when they arrived. It took around 50 firefighters nearly an hour to get the flames under control.

Three people were treated by medic.

The Red Cross is helping with the 15 people who were put out of their homes as a result of the fire. Damages are estimated at $250,000.
