STATESVILLE, N.C. — A man has been taken into custody following a SWAT standoff that lasted several hours.
Statesville Police Officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of West Bingham St. on Wednesday in order to serve an involuntary commitment order. The subject inside the home refused to comply with officer’s requests, and was found to be armed with a hand gun.
Negotiators responded to the scene and spoke with this subject for several hours, attempting to resolve the situation. The Statesville Police Special Response Team was also activated and was placed on standby near the scene.
Just after 9:30 p.m., the subject was taken into custody without injury. He was transported to a local medical facility for evaluation.
Officers are clearing the scene at this time.
