GASTONIA, N.C.– The Gastonia Fire Department responded to an apartment fire early Sunday morning.
Firefighters were called to The Patriots Apartments on Union Road in Gastonia around 1:36 a.m. Sunday and say there was smoke and flames coming from the back of the building when they arrived.
The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes and no injuries were reported.
Five apartment units sustained heavy damage in the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and the Gaston County Chapter of the Red Cross is helping displaced residents.
