Monroe, N.C. — A 14-year-old was struck by a Chevrolet van on Highway 74 in Monroe around 10 p.m. Saturday, according to city officials.
The teen was part of a group kids standing in a median in front of O’Charley’s restaurant.
Some of the kids ran out into the highway when the teenager was struck.
Police say the driver, Thomas Cushing, swerved to keep from hitting the teen but was unsuccessful.
The teen was transported to CMC-Main where he is expected to make a full recovery.
There are no charges for the driver at this time.
