DENVER, N.C. – A customer at the Lowe’s Home Improvement store off Highway 73 in Denver was bitten by a copperhead snake Monday. It happened in the store’s Garden Center.

A Lowe’s employee told a 911 dispatcher that the snake bit the 45-year-old customer on the lower forearm area, just above the man’s wrist. The man, a resident of Iron Station, said the snake bite was very painful, all the way from the bite mark to his shoulder. An egg-sized lump also immediately appeared at the bite site. An ambulance took the man to the hospital. He is currently being treated at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center.

The snake was killed immediately and placed in a plastic bag. The East Lincoln Fire Department posted a picture of the snake on its Facebook page, but later took down the post.
