Boy Hit with Foul Ball Recovering After Fracturing Skull
CHARLOTTE, NC– “I know they come very fast I’ve had some come close,” said parent Johnathan Lasker.
Families heading to BB&T Ballpark to watch the Knights game may have safety on their mind more than ever after a foul ball hit 6-year-old James David at Sunday’s game.
“We were thinking about it since we’re going to be down a little close to field then we were last year just telling the guys to always be watching the field when stuff going on, when pitcher pitching and batter batting keep eyes on the ball,”
Said parent Bob Brown.
James was sitting in the first row by third base when the ball hit him in the head, causing internal bleeding and a skull fracture.
Knights General Manager Scotty Brown says they spend about $75,000 enhancing the safety nets this year.
“You can’t net the entire facility but we think the measures we took this year have already prevented a lot of potential incidents,” said Knights General Manager Scotty Brown.
Brown says most importantly, they want to remind fans to stay alert.
“Constant education of our fans with announcements certainly the messages on the video board to stay alert at all times that’s really what we can do at this point,” said Brown.
Home and three Knights players visited James at CMC on Wednesday.
He is out of ICU and he is expected to be okay.
This is definitely a lesson for parents and kids.
“I’ll be more careful than usual I’ll pay a lot of attention instead of turning and seeing if he’s paying attention I mean he’s the one I’m worried about,”
Said Lasker.
