CMPD Holds Honor Swim for the Children of Fallen Officers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD officers will swim the 34-mile length of Lake Norman to raise college funding for the children of two fallen policemen.

On April 1st, 2007, Officer Sean Clark was killed in the line of duty, leaving behind his son and wife who was 7-months pregnant with their second son at that time. On February 25th, 2011, SWAT Officer Fred Thornton was killed in the line of duty, leaving behind his wife, 2 daughters, and 2 sons.

The goal of the Honor Swim is to establish college funds for 3 of their children.

The event will be held Wednesday, May 18th and Thursday, May 19th at Blythe Landing, located at 15901 NC Highway 73, Huntersville, NC 28078. A large, family-friendly festival will be held on Thursday, May 19th at the finish line to celebrate the completion of the swim.
