Is Choosing A Valedictorian Unfair?
The Wake County School Board wants to cut down on what they call ‘unhealthy competition’ among the top students.
The board unanimously approved a policy this week that would stop high school principals from naming valedictorians and salutatorians after 2018.
Instead, students will be recognized using the latin adverbs: summa cum laude, magna cum laude or cum laude.
School leaders say under the current system, the top students aren’t collaborating with each other and they are taking courses to boost their GPA, instead of one’s they like.
