Lake Norman Residents Say I-77 is Dangerous
MOORESVILLE, NC– “We hear a significant number of tractor trailers blowing tires and loud booms when those tired blow,” said Nancy Murray of Mooresville.
Nancy Murray lives In the Gibbs Cove neighborhood in Mooresville. Her back yard behind the big trees is 1-77 around mile marker 34.
Murray says as the roadwork for the toll lanes has moved up their way, driving 1-77 has become more dangerous.
“When you drive in the lane and you hit the area that’s been ground it has a tendency to pull your car to the right,” said Murray.
“When we have a traffic accident on 1-77 its shuts down 77,” said Lake Norman Chamber President, Bill Russell.
Lake Norman Chamber president Bill Russell says starting at exit 23, DOT CREATED A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN SHIFTING THE LANES.
“Instead of painting over the stripes what they did was they ground them out and here’s a rut in the road,” said Russell.
Murray sent us from a friend following a tractor trailer on 77, you can see how its forced to serve to stay off the grounded lane.
Russell says this is all part of the problem of the toll lanes contract w Cintra and more reason for It to be cancelled.
“Its bad for business, it’s bad for our communities and ultimately it’s going to be bad for North Carolina,” said Russell.
Murray says she and neighbors reached out to DOT, they pass her on to someone else then say 1-77 Mobility Partner is actually in charge of managing that stretch of 77.
Murray says the lanes need to be fixed.
“Safety is primary issue its a very big concern I’m concerned for myself I’m concerned for every person who has to travel on that road every single day,” said Murray.
