City Council Agrees Not To Raise Property Taxes
CHARLOTTE, NC– Charlotte’s budget battle may mean some higher fees, tut tonight we know it will not include a property tax hike.
City manager Ron Carlee’s budget recommended a less than half cent property tax hike to pay for more police officers.
During straw votes today, City Council decided instead to look at increasing the solid waste fee. It would go up eight dollars a year for homes and apartments.
“We’ve gotten emails from people who’s landlords have told them that they’re talking about a 20 dollar increase a month. If that’s what they’re being told, then somebody’s not telling them the truth.” said Democratic City Councilwoman Julie Eiselt.
The latest plan calls for hiring 63 new officers. Council votes on the budget June 13th.
