Martin Truex Jr. wins Liftmaster Pole, will start first for Coke 600
CONCORD, NC (WCCB Charlotte) — Martin Truex Jr. broke in new shoes during Coca-Cola 600 qualifying.
Safe to say they will suffice for Sunday’s race.
Truex Jr., driver of the No. 78 Toyota, will start on the pole for the Coca-Cola 600–NASCAR’s longest race of the season. It’s Truex’s ninth pole of his career, second this season, and first ever at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Starting up front isn’t necessarily the biggest advantage in a 600-mile race, but first choice in pit-stall selection certainly is.
“Front of pit road is a good one,” Martin Truex Jr. said. “To have that for 600 miles is a big help. It just feels good, I’m really proud of my team. We have had a good season and tend to be really fast on these type of race tracks. Hopefully this is where we get that first win of the year.”
Starting on the front row alongside the 78-car will be Joey Logano. Logano, who won last Saturday’s Sprint All-Star race and last fall’s Bank of America 500, certainly will be a contender on Sunday.
The green flag drops on the Coca Cola 600 around 6:15 on Sunday.
