“Spotlight” (2015): The movie that won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the Oscars earlier this year is unsurprisingly one of the best movies from last year. The film chronicles the Boston Globes investigation into molestation crimes among Catholic Priests and the massive cover-up of it within the church. Boasting strong performances from actors such as Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, and Michael Keaton, among many others, the film dives deep into the painstaking work of investigative journalism. Praise can also be given to writer/director Tom McCarthy whose dedication to the facts and details of this story as opposed to over-dramatizing for the sake of spectacle make it feel like something outside the reigns of a traditional Hollywood picture.

“Jurassic Park” (1993): Last summer’s “Jurassic World” was one of the highest grossing movies of 2015 but when was the last time you revisited the original that started it all? From the first dinosaur glimpse to the terrifying raptor sequence in the lab, Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster has held-up surprisingly well over the years and still remains one of most thoroughly entertaining popcorn movies of last 25 years. Netflix is will also dropping the second and third installments in the series, “The Lost World” and “Jurassic Park III”, allowing viewers to have their own “Jurassic Park” marathon.

ONB

“Orange is the New Black” (Season 4): Netflix’s strongest original series makes it’s return on June 17, meaning now is probably a good time to catch-up. The series has only gotten better as it’s broadened from a singular fish out of water story about a woman in her thirties being sent to a state prison to an ensemble piece that gives focuses on the variety of different characters within the the institution, most of them women from various ethnic, economic, and sexual background. Few other TV shows have managed to be this diverse in terms of the characters and stories they tell, which helps “Orange is the New Black” stand apart as a cut above the rest. The show has traditionally excelled at moving between comedy and drama at its choosing but this year appears to offer a slightly darker tone than seasons past.
