Heavy Police Presence for Final Night of Speed Street

CHARLOTTE, NC – Large crowds enjoyed the final night of Speed Street Saturday in Uptown. There was a strong police presence, with cops on foot and bicycle.

The festival was declared an Extraordinary Event, which gives officers more tools to keep people safe.

Police say things went smoothly for the most part.

But Friday and Saturday, we did see some issues with large groups of teens getting into fights.

Saturday night, we saw police go running towards Trade and Tryon after reports of shots fired.

Someone in the crowd posted a video to Twitter showing people running away in a panic.

Police tell us the couldn’t confirm any shots were actually fired, but it upset many in the crowd including one woman visiting from Missouri.

“A large crowd of people were running in fear, grabbing their children and running in fear.
And I would never come back,” says Lori Heiser.
