CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Locals brought chocolate chip cookies to fire stations in honor of Richard Sheltra’s birthday.

Volunteer firefighter Richard Sheltra was killed while battling a fire in Pineville on April 30th. He would turn 21 on Thursday.

To honor him, people were asked to bring chocolate chip cookies to their local fire department, police station, or emergency medical service on Thursday, June 2nd.

A Facebook group was created for the event. The page reads, “We often take for granted that these people do these jobs because they want to help people. They want to support people during the worst times of their lives.”
