Fire Stations Nationwide Honor Sheltra With Cookies

PINEVILLE, NC– The family of fallen firefighter Richard Sheltra are using what would have been his 21st birthday to honor his fellow first responders.  Sheltra died in april while fighting a fire in a Pineville shopping center.

His family issued a plea on Facebook, asking people to take chocolate chip cookies to their local fire station.
The idea has taken off, with cookies pouring into local stations and spreading to all 50 states.

“Everyone that knew him obviously loved him, its just great to see it so magnified. It wasn’t just a small thing, its all over the country.” said Sheltra’s high school classmate Kayla Comer.

The Sheltra family hopes to make this an annual occurrence.
