Ground Broken For New Tower At Charlotte Douglas
CHARLOTTE, NC– Charlotte Douglas Airport is getting a new air traffic control tower.
Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and the FAA broke ground today for the new 370 foot tall tower.
Air traffic controllers will have a better view of the runways when the project is complete in 2019. Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts says the new tower is a necessity.
“We know as we continue to grow to add flights, to add operations to our airport, this new tower is essential.” said Roberts
The new tower is the second tallest behind one in Atlanta. Charlotte tower controllers are the fifth busiest in the nation
