Man Brutally Kills Puppy In Front Of Gastonia Business

GASTONIA, NC — A Gastonia man is facing felony animal cruelty charges after police say he brutally killed a puppy Thursday evening in front of barber shop.

Police say 48-year-old Christopher Leach of Gastonia placed a white puppy into a black cloth bag, raised the bag over his head, and repeatedly slammed it into the sidewalk until the dog was dead.

The incident happened around 7:45pm Thursday in front of Defay’s Barber Shop on E. Main Ave. Police say Leach was drunk and disruptive, and broke the front glass of the barber shop during the incident.

The owner of the barber shop called police and reported the incident.

Leach is charged with felony cruelty to animals, damage to property/vandalism, and drunk and disruptive conduct.
