SBI and Sheriff’s Office Take Down Drug Dealers
On June 2nd, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, NC State Bureau of Investigation, along with help from Spencer Police Department and Salisbury Police managed to obtain a search warrant for 904-B Third Street, Spencer NC. This warrant came after two months of investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and SBI.
The investigation consisted of making purchases of heroin from two brothers who lived within the residence.
Both Gerald Lamont Steele, 39, and David Lewis Crockett, 33, had previous federal drug charges but had been released within the last six years. Investigators managed to learn that the home the brothers sold out of had a security system and was fortified to hinder law enforcement, along with any other possibly intruders, from entering the home.
The Sheriff Office Special Response team was deployed to make a dynamic entry and both brothers were arrested that morning.
Steele was arrested early after leaving his residence, the SRT obtained the warrant after where they arrested Crockett.
At the scene, officers discovered drug paraphernalia, measuring scales, and a loaded .380 handgun. It should be noted that, due to his prior convictions, Steele was prohibited from owning an firearm. As of now, Steele has been charged with 14 total counts: one count of possession of firearm by felon, five counts of conspiracy to sell heroin, four counts of maintaining a dwelling to keep and sell controlled substances, and four counts of possess with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver heroin.
His bond is currently set at $500,000. Crockett has been charged with ten counts: five counts of conspiracy to sell heroin and five counts of possess with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver heroin with bond set at $400,000.
