RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) β Authorities have arrested a motorcyclist who they say led them on a high-speed chase in Wake County before crashing into an officer’s cruiser.
North Carolina Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Patty McQuillan tells news outlets that Alton Jones did not stop when a Raleigh police officer spotted him going more than 100 mph on Saturday afternoon on his motorcycle.
McQuillan says Jones led authorities on a nearly 6-mile chase that hit speeds of 125 mph.
Officials say Jones crashed when he hit the side of a state trooper’s car, causing minor damage to the car and motorcycle.
Jones was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. He faces numerous charges including felony speed to elude arrest and careless and reckless driving. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
