CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Muslim American Society of Charlotte released the following statement in reference to the mass shooting at a gay club in Orlando, Florida:
The Charlotte Muslim Community Leadership is saddened by the heinous atrocity and loss of life this past weekend in Orlando, Florida. We stand together and strongly condemn this barbaric act against humanity. There can be absolutely no justification for such a heinous crime. It was only days ago when the country stood together in solidarity celebrating the life of our dear brother, Muslim and American, Muhammad Ali who exemplified what Islam and Muslim truly is.
There is no question in any sane person’s mind that a human being has the right to live in safety and not fear for his/her life no matter what their lifestyle may be. Even if one disagrees with the lifestyle of another person, that does not give him/her the right to murder that person. This behavior is unacceptable, un-Islamic and un-American.
With this in mind, Charlotte Muslims stand with all Americans, as brethren, condemning all acts of violence against the innocent. We share the grief of the families of the victims in Orlando and join the nation in their mourning. We urge all to reflect on the message of peace and unity propagated by the late Muhammad Ali. Let us stand together for peace and justice and against all acts of hatred regardless of origin.
