Hundreds Flock to Charlotte Church for Interfaith Vigil for Orlando Victims

CHARLOTTE, N.C.–Β  Tonight many continue to remember those lost in the Orlando nightclub shooting.

An interfaith vigil was held in their honor in Uptown Charlotte tonight, meanwhile many across our area say they are also finding ways toΒ  support the victims.

You can see the support for the LGBT community across Plaza Midwood.Β  The Co-exist and Rainbow flags fly high at 1213 Studio salon.

Amy Herring is a stylist at 1213 Studio salon in Plaza Midwood and says, “This flag is a co-exist flag, it represents all religious and different types of people.”

Herring says they put them up to show solidarity –after the Orlando shooting massacre that claimed 49 lives.

“It’s a small way but we are doing what we can to show our support and our love.Β  We’re all hurting from what happened in Orlando, we’re all hurting from what’s going on in our own State.”

Despite fear, Herring says LGBT friendly businesses could be targets of hate following the mass shooting.

“There’s definitely worry about an attack in Charlotte, I wouldn’t know what to do to prevent it,” says Herring.

“I want to offer sympathies and condolences to those who have died,” says Mayor Jennifer Roberts.

Standing room only at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Tuesday Night.

Mayor Jennifer Roberts told the crowd that CMPD is — always training officers and has a tactical plan in case anything happens here.

A message that resonates with supporters here at the vigil.

“I know the Mayor is really vigilant and what she is doing for Charlotte, I agree we need to be prepared for any event,” says Shahid Rahu.
