Local Leaders Travel To Raleigh In Effort To Cancel I77 Toll Lanes Contract
RALEIGH, NC– More than 20 elected officials and business leaders headed to Raleigh today to talk about canceling the I -77 Toll Lanes contract. The House recently passed a bill that would stop construction by September First.
The mayor of huntersville, John Aneralla, says the goal in Raleigh today was to try and get the bill onto the floor and to emphasize no one agrees with the contract.
“It’s not necessarily about tolls … It’s more about the language within the contract…A foreign company would be controlling out destiny for the next 50 years. As opposed to NC DOT.” said Aneralla.
State Transportation Secretary Nick Tennyson says canceling the project could could cost North Carolina 800 Million Dollars.
