Woman Arrested For Leaving Child In A Hot Car

A Gastonia woman was arrested Wednesday after leaving her child in a hot car.

Sara West, 23, left her child in a hot car while she ran into a BI-LO grocery store in Clover, South Carolina.

A witness stated to police that when she arrived she noticed a child unattended in the vehicle with the windows up and the car not running. The witness also stated that the child was asleep, red and sweating.

When police arrived, the vehicle had left the scene.

After locating the vehicle, West told police she ran into BI-LO for about five minutes and did not want to wake the child for the short period of time she would be in the store. Police then placed West under arrest for Unlawful Neglect of a child.

The grandfather has taken custody of the child while the Department of Social Services conducts an investigation.

West was transported to the Moss Justice Center where she awaits bond.
