CHARLOTTE, NC – A child has died after being hit while driving a Go-Kart through a busy north Charlotte intersection.
Police say 12-year-old Cierra Mitchell was driving a Go-Kart down Greene Street in north Charlotte when she ran a stop sign at the intersection of West Sugar Creek Road just before 9 o’clock Thursday evening.
While going through the intersection Cierra was hit by a car headed south on W. Sugar Creek Rd., thrown from the Go-Kart, and hit by another car headed north on W. Sugar Creek.
Investigators say Mitchell was not wearing a helmet.
According to Robert Mitchell, Cierra’s father, he posted on Facebook stating that Cierra was in a “deep coma” Friday morning.

“To my family, friends,and all my prayer warriors I want to thank you for all of your prayers. I need one more big prayer from you all. As we prepare to send Cierra home to our father, please pray for her spirit to have safe journey. Please pray for her family Coral, Desi, and Shaianne, to give them peace in the fact that she is no longer suffering, and she home in the arms of our lord. Pray for their strength to keep pushing on and know Cierra is watching over them. I love you all for being here to support us through this difficult time in our lives.”
A Go Fund Me Page has been created by family members to help Cierra’s single mother with living expenses and to help raise her other daughter.
Nobody else was injured in the accident. Officials do not believe speed or alcohol were factors.
