More Than 75 Bomb Threats Called into Burke & Catawba County Businesses
NEWTON, NC – Investigators are trying to figure out who is responsible for calling in more than 75 bomb threats throughout Burke and Catawba counties over the weekend.
Police say whoever is making the bomb threats is calling them in usually within a few minutes of each other. That’s making it difficult for police and first responders.
Calls were made to several gas stations, restaurants, and led to the Walmart in Conover being evacuated.
“I’m pretty sure it can get aggravating, you know. I mean, it’s a lot of work. It’s serious work, you know, especially, like myself, I’ve got children, bomb threats are nothing to play with,” says Newton resident Michael Forney.
In Newton, nearly a dozen businesses received bomb threats.
The first calls all came between 9:00-11:00pm Friday night. They started again Saturday around 4:00 in the afternoon.
Public Safety in Morganton reports more than 30 bomb threats. We’re still waiting on numbers from Hickory Police.
