In Just 24 Hours, Several NoDa Businesses Broken Into
CHARLOTTE, N.C.–“I’ve talked to everybody in the neighborhood and we are banding together to make sure we stop this guy,” says Peniella.
Walter Peniella manages Cabo Fish Taco in NoDa —just one of three businesses on North Davidson Street broken into in the past few days.
“I came in around 4:30, I got a call from alarm company it was cleared nobody was here,” says Peniella.
Peniella says minutes after leaving he received another call, thieves had broken in, using a rock to smash the door and steal money out of the register.
Just two doors down. Crews work to replace the door at jack beagles where police say the same person broke in and attempted to steal cash around 5 Monday morning.
The Crepe Cellar Kitchen and Pub across the street also had it’s door smashed in and register stolen. Also around 5 Sunday morning.
Juan Penaloza, a cook at Sabor Latin Street Grill says, “It kind of shocked me a little bit especially because I work in between all three places that got burglarized.”
Penaloza says they were lucky the thieves didn’t break in there. But are concerned they could come back.
“It’s an attack on us too, we feel like we got there backs,” says Penaloza.
CMPD says it will be ready if they do.
Captain Torri Tellis says, “We are addressing it to increase our patrols, increase our directed patrols, and doing special operations to make sure we counter those efforts.”
