The three felony charges against Republican Fletcher Hartsell of Concord are included in a grand-jury indictment issued Tuesday in Wake County.

The indictment alleges that Hartsell falsely reported that money from his campaign account was used for charitable donations when it was actually used for his financial benefit. He’s also accused of using campaign money for himself and falsely labeling it as reimbursement for campaign expenses.

A jail website showed that Hartsell had been in custody. Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman said in an email he was being processed and his bond was being set.

A defense attorney for Hartsell didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment.
