CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Officials have recovered and identified the body of a boater who went missing on Lake Wylie on Friday.
The York County Coroner hasΒ identified the bodyΒ as York resident, David Napper, 59.
WCCB first reported about this incident on Friday. Steele Creek Volunteer Fire Department and emergency crews were dispatched to Barksdale Lane shortly after 8:15 a.m. Friday morning. The call came in as a water rescue.
Officials told WCCB that Napper jumped off his boat after difficulties with the boat, and tried to swim to shore. Officials said NapperΒ never resurfaced.
The Steele Creek VFD, Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources were all on the scene on Friday trying to locate Napper.
The drowning death is still being investigated by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the York County Coroner’s Office.
The York County Coroner said that the autopsy and toxicology testing will be completed Sunday afternoon. They say that the results can take several weeks.
