A Victim Has Been Identified After Fatal South End Accident

One man died after an early morning accident in South End on Sunday.

CHARLOTTE – N.C. – A man has been identified as the victim of a fatal single vehicle accident in South End early Sunday morning.

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Sergei Semyrog. Medic said that Semyrog was pronounced dead on the scene. Semyrog’s body was located on the CATS Lynx tracks between Old Pineville Road and Freeland Lane.

Officials say that they responded to a single vehicle crash at South Boulevard and Freeland Lane shortly after 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Police say upon arrival, they located a 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo on the tracks.

CMPD think that the crash began in the 4000 block of Old Pineville Road. Police believe that Semyrog’s Porsche was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed and lost control of the car on a car.

The vehicle then ran off the road, struck a fence, and entered the light rail tracks. Investigators believe that Semyrog was ejected during the crash.

No Lynx vehicles or other cars were involved in the crash. The tracks were closed for several hours Sunday morning for officials to remove debris. The tracks have now reopened as of 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

The accident is still under investigation by CMPD. At this time it is unknown if alcohol contributed to the crash, but investigators believe speed and not wearing a seat belt contributed to the accident and Semyrog’s death.
