Man Accused Of Killing College Councelor Back In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC– The man accused of killing a young woman and setting her apartment on fire is now back in Charlotte to face charges.

Mathew Benner is in the Mecklenburg County Jail. He’s charged with First Degree Murder and Arson. Police arrested Benner last month in Nevada.

Police say Benner confessed to murdering his neighbor Amanda Strous.

Strous was found inside her burning Steele Creek apartment and was pronounced dead at the hospital.  The Central Piedmont Community College counselor was set to be married this month.
