Thousands Pack Uptown For Charlotte’s Skyshow
CHARLOTTE, NC– Families visiting from out of town and from around Charlotte packed Romare Bearden Park for food and festivities for the kids leading up to the main event.
“We’re definitely stick around for the fireworks sadly we didn’t buy our tickets in time to watch the game so we’re just going to enjoy the outdoor festivities,” said Charlotte resident Carmen Purcell.
And Charlotte Police are making sure families enjoy safely. CMPD had the 4th of July festival declared an Extraordinary Event so they upped bike and foot patrol officers and have more leeway to stop people and search bags if suspicious.
“This is unfortunately a time where we have to be very watchful in public to make sure that people stay safe if people see anything unusual please let us know we will be out in full force,” said Rob Estes of CMPD
Parents say they appreciate the safety measures.
“I saw that for the game tonight they’re tightening up security and things like that so its good to know and good to see them out here makes us feel safe,” said Myrtle Beach Resident Jessica Armenta.
Charlotte Fire was also on patrol. With the heat and crowds out all day , paramedics were on hand in case of any heat emergencies.
