CHARLOTTE – N.C – One man was arrested in connection with an armed robbery early this morning. Two other suspects are still at large after they fled from CMPD on foot after stealing a vehicle.

18-year-old Malik Carter was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy robbery with a dangerous weapon, fleeing arrest with an motor-vehicle, possession of stolen firearm, and possession of firearm by felon.

Officials tell WCCB that Carter was with two other men when they robbed two victims at gunpoint shortly after 1:30 a.m. this morning at an apartment complex located in the 5800 block of Reddman Road.

The three men then stole the two vehicles belonging to both of the victims. The victims were not hurt during the robbery.

At approximately 2:00 a.m., Metro Division, Central Division, and K-9 Officers located both vehicles and tried to initiate a traffic stop on West 5th St. According to police, the three suspects did not stop during the traffic stop, which then led into a pursuit.

CMPD says that the two suspects in one of the stolen vehicles stopped on the onramp to I-77 from Lasalle St. The two individuals then fled on foot from the vehicle.

Officers then continued to pursue the second vehicle driven by Carter, who then drove to a dead end on Newland Rd. Carter then attempted to escape by running from the vehicle but was quickly apprehended by officials after a brief foot chase.

Police say Carter threw two handguns that he had been carrying onto the ground during the foot pursuit.
