Thousands Still Without Power Across the Charlotte Area

CHARLOTTE, NC – Work continued Sunday night to restore power to thousands across the Charlotte area.

Duke Energy has hundreds of additional linemen working to repair damage left by a powerful storm Friday night.

But for those still in the dark, power might not be restored until late Monday night.

East Charlotte neighbors like Lillie Weir say they didn’t expect the power to be off for so long.

“Can’t get housework done. Can’t do any cooking. Everything has defrosted in the freezer and the refrigerator,” Weir explains.

But in West Charlotte.. some relief.

The power came back on at Charisse Johnson’s home on Remount Road around 3:00 Sunday afternoon.

“I’m glad to see them out there working now for the people that don’t have electricity. I just feel sorry for them and hopefully sooner or later everybody’s electricity will be back on,” Johnson says.
