Suspect Indicted on Murder, Arson Charges
CHARLOTTE, NC — A man accused of killing a college counselor in Charlotte, then taking off to Nevada, has been indicted. A Mecklenburg County Grand Jury indicted Mathew Benner Monday on murder and arson charges.
Police say he confessed to murdering his neighbor Amanda Strous. Firefighters found her inside her burning apartment in Steele Creek on June 18. She died at the hospital.
The Central Piedmont Community College counselor was set to be married this month.
