11-Year-Old Hit and Killed in West Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say an 11-year-old girl was fatally struck by a vehicle in west Charlotte.

On Wednesday at approximately 5:40 p.m., an 11-year-old was attempting to cross the 2300 block of West Boulevard with another juvenile relative. A Honda Ridgeline, driven by Janelle Garcia, struck the victim as she attempted to cross the street. The other child was not involved in the crash.

The victim was transported to CMC-Main, where she was later pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries sustained during the crash. Garcia stopped and remained on scene until police arrived and was not injured as a result of the crash.

The pedestrian was not crossing at an intersection or in a marked crosswalk when the crash occurred. Speed and alcohol use were not contributing factors for this crash event.
