Woman Charged With Shooting Husband At Local Elementary School

STATESVILLE, N.C. — Police have charged a woman in reference to a shooting that happened at an elementary school in Statesville.

Police were called to Central Elementary School on Wilkesboro Road in September 2015 after a man was shot during a domestic disturbance.

Investigators determined Kaley Callicutt shot her husband Michael Callicutt during the disturbance.

Detectives met with members of the District Attorney’s Office to determine what, if any, charges may be filed against Kaley Callicutt.

The decision was made by the DA’s office to wait for the results of the forensic testing before any decisions were made.  The test results took approximately nine months.

Evidence analyzed at a laboratory helped the DA’s office determine that the shooting was not justified.

Kaley Callicutt has been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflecting serious injury and discharge a weapon on school property.
