Security Upgrades & Renovations at Bank of America Stadium
CHARLOTTE, NC – Security upgrades mean big changes next time you step inside Bank of America Stadium. It comes as the Panthers continue a multi-year renovation project.
Fans will now pass through metal detectors, instead of being hand screened.
“We’re gonna be a little more locked down. Not any less friendly, but a little more locked down in the execution of our security,” says Lance Emory, with the Carolina Panthers.
Almost 100 detectors will be in place, divided between the three entry gates. Officials say they’ll catch weapons, but fans can leave keys in their pockets.
Bomb-sniffing dogs will patrol outside the stadium. And the stadium doubled the number of security cameras. Arcadia Young says safety is a top priority for her family, so she likes the changes.
“Makes me feel good, makes me feel comfortable. Makes me want to come to the event even more,” Young says.
Panthers officials say once people get used to the new security procedures, they expect it will be faster than having to go through and wand everyone.
Also look for renovations on the 500-Level. Crews have installed new signs and updated concession stands.
You can also expect stronger cell phone signals and improved WI-FI.
“You’ll find about 770 access points. They’re located underneath the seats in order to get coverage everywhere inside of that bowl,” explains James Hammond with the Carolina Panthers.
Team officials say this phase of the renovation project cost $26 Million, with $18 Million of that being paid by the city.
