Victims ID’ed In Murder-Attempted Suicide Investigation In East Charlotte

CMPD is investigating an early morning murder-attempted suicide incident that occurred at the Devonwood Apartments

CHARLOTTE, N.C – Detectives with CMPD are conducting a homicide investigation at an apartment on the 6400 block of Woodbend Drive in east Charlotte. Upon arrival to the residence, officers found Maria Rocha, 43, dead from apparent stab wounds.

Rocha’s family has been notified of her passing.

Police have charged Miguel A. Hernandez, 45, with Rocha’s death. Detectives have confirmed that Hernandez and Rocha were in a relationship.

Once they arrived to the scene, officers found Hernandez suffering from a self-inflicted knife wound. Hernandez was then transported to CMC with life-threatening injuries.

CMPD say that upon his release from CMC, Hernandez will be transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and be charged with Murder.

The call for service came in at approximately 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning at the Devonwood Apartments. Officers say that they also responded to a suicide threat call at the same address on Woodbend Drive.

Detectives are currently interviewing any witnesses to this incident.
