Mecklenburg Co. Continues To Test For Zika Virus
CHARLOTTE, NC– Mecklenburg County will continue to test for the types of mosquito that carries the Zika Virus, but so far hasn’t found either types in our area.
Four people in Florida were infected with Zika by mosquitos here in the U.S. There are eight cases in Mecklenburg County, but each patient got the virus traveling outside the country.
Top health officials say transmission of the virus was almost inevitable and there will likely be more cases..
“The critical issue is to make sure that those local cases don’t become disseminated and don’t become sustained and the way you do that is with very aggressive mosquito abatement programs,” says Dr. Anthony Fauci.
President Obama is vowing to give Florida all the resources necessary to stop the spread of Zika.
