CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The death of a 2-year-old in east Charlotte is now being investigated as a homicide. Police say they were called to a home on Farmpond Lane Tuesday in reference to an unresponsive 2-year-old.
The child was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed that the child had a burn on the right side of his body consistent with the top of a lighter, bruising, a lacerated liver and broken ribs.
Police also say the child was treated at a local hospital a few days prior for leg pain after his mother claimed he fell at daycare.
Police executed a search warrant at the home and removed the following items: lighter, dumbells, hatchet, hot glue gun, bolt, cord, broom handles, fireplace pokers and tongs, car seat, documents, grill, grill grate, flashlight, hammer, belts, purse strap and cell phones.
No arrests have been made at this time. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
