Security Upgrades Now in Place at Bank of America Stadium

CHARLOTTE, NC – An international soccer match was the first test of a multi-million dollar security upgrade at Bank of America Stadium.

From now on, all fans will have to pass through a metal detector to get inside. “I feel a lot safer noticing everything that’s around here,” says fan Pam Reidy.
The $3 Million upgrades are part of the stadium’s multi-year renovation project. All NFL stadiums are expected to have a similar set up in coming years.

“People are just going to have to take it with a grain of salt and know that it’s something that needs to be done. Especially in the world today,” Reidy says.

Officials say the new detectors will catch weapons, but fans can leave things like keys in their pockets.

Bomb-sniffing dogs will patrol outside the stadium. And the stadium also doubled the number of security cameras.

Many fans were caught off guard though by the NFL bag policy. Clear bags and small clutch purses were the only bags allowed in.

Laura Becker was turned away after being told hers was too big. She says it was frustrating.

“Yeah, cause now I gotta go back to my hotel and figure out getting back here to the stadium,” she says.
